"Ivette, My wife and I extend our thanks to you for your help and want to let you know that our experience at Azucar was nothing short of wonderful. As you mentioned, Ricardo was “awesome” – extremely attentive and helpful, especially with deciding upon menu selections. He’s also incredibly friendly and spent just the right amount of time talking with us as well as timing his visits perfectly. Kudos to Azucar for hiring Ricardo and double kudos to Ricardo for his wonderful service! Since we dined early (5:30PM), we didn’t get to experience or enjoy the “nightlife”, music and dancing, but the ambiance was present, and I can only imagine that our next visit will be later in the evening so we can enjoy some of the wonderful extras offered. My wife and I were very pleased when we chose to skip the “Tower” in favor of our own selection of Tapas including Gambas Catalan al Ajillo, Mariquitas de Platanos Verde, Mejillones Salteados, and Tostones con Mojo Criollo. (We made this choice because neither of us eat red meat). The shrimp were fresh, tender, and exploding with flavor, the plantains were so light and crispy that we almost didn’t know we were eating them, the mussels were sweet, tender, and succulent, and the tostones were the biggest, best tasting ones we’ve ever had. The garlic dipping sauce that was included with the tostones was unbeatable – just the right amount of flavor – not overpowering, but rather the perfect complement to the tostones, which, by the way, were completely not-oily. For our main courses, we ordered the Enchilado de Cangrejo on Ricardo’s advice and were really “wow’d” by it. The full-bodied flavor of perfect, giant lumps of crab meat prepared in a “just right” creole sauce was exactly was Ricardo said it was going to be. I couldn’t decide on which chicken dish to order for myself, so I left it to Ricardo to decide. After asking me if I was OK with “spicy”, he brought to the table Pollo Picante con Vegetales. Another “wow” moment for me – the chicken was tender and juicy and so full of flavor with exactly the right amount of heat. The vegetables were crispy, not overcooked, and blended right in with the bite-sized chunks of chicken – I wish my stomach was bigger so I could have ordered another! Done with dinner, and basking in satisfaction, dessert was not really on our minds…except for the fact that the menu included Pudin Diplomatico con Brandy. Nothing can stop my wife from tasting bread pudding when it’s on the menu, so Ricardo was busied readying a dish for her. Meanwhile, he said that the Flan de Coco y Ron was “unbelievable” (as he put it), and since everything he said so far was “right on”, who was I to argue with him or pass up the opportunity to enjoy another delicious course in spite of being too full to eat any more? Both desserts were brought to the table along with a cup of tea for my wife and a Café’ Cubano for me. Ricardo was right, the flan was terrific – the coconut sat right on top of the flan, both literally and in flavor, making it the perfect finish to the perfect meal. The bread pudding was smooth – somewhat unusual for us, not the typical bread pudding we’re used to, but certainly delicious. As full, and consequently tired, as I was at the end of this most enjoyable dinner, the café’ Cubano absolutely woke me up. After finishing that perfect cup of coffee, I was fully energized – enough to continue our evening and pick up our kids after attending the Taylor Swift concert at the Prudential Center. Although we tried to order the sangria as you suggested, Ricardo strongly suggest that we give the new “Ricky Ricardo” Mojito a try. Wow! What a great suggestion! My wife and I enjoyed that concoction so much we almost ordered another, but deferred to your suggestion and ordered a pitcher of Sangria as the follow-up. No disappointment there – the sangria was perfectly smooth and tart and plentiful – and pleasantly –not- stuffed with fruit filler. When we finished the sangria, I was ready for another “Ricky Ricardo”, but, alas, time ran out for us and we had to move on to dessert. Overall, our experience at Azucar was nothing short of excellent and perfect. We will certainly be back for more of your great food and service! I’m sure we’ll bring our kids and some friends as well. The trip from Long Island is well worth it and we can’t wait to visit again! Thanks again for everything."
